Black Sherif, the 2023 VGMA Artiste of the Year, has explained why he chose to watch Sarkodie sing ‘Country Side’ at the VGMA instead of joining him on stage during the just concluded award event.
In an interview on TV3’s New Day Show on Monday, May 8, 2023, Black Sherif said that he opted not to perform alongside Sarkodie because he wanted to see the great rapper perform as a fan.
Despite collaborating on the smash song ‘Country Side,’ Black Sherif did not join Sarkodie on stage to perform.
The choice not to perform with Sarkodie surprised fans because the two singers have a wonderful working connection and have worked on one of the biggest songs of this era.
He made this decision because of his respect and adoration for the artist, he claims. Black Sherif further said that because to production constraints, he was unable to play twice following his own performance earlier in the evening.
“After my set, I was not supposed to come back on stage to join him,” he revealed
Despite not including Sarkodie, the song won Best Collaboration of the Year at the same ceremony.
Black Sherif’s performance at the VGMA was praised, with spectators singing and dancing along to every song. In recent years, the young artist’s reputation has skyrocketed, with his songs resonating with fans in Ghana and abroad.
