Together, Mr. Eazi and DJ Edu are working on a new dance music project which combines live performances with music.

Nigerian music superstar, entrepreneur, and global nomad Choplife Soundsystem, a brand-new pan-African music ensemble, has been announced by Mr. Eazi.

Additionally, the group will include DJ Edu, a Kenyan-born DJ with a base in UK, as its regular DJ, as well as a loose collective of contributing DJs, artists, and producers from all across the continent. Choplife Soundsystem’s main vocalist will be Mr. Eazi, who will also perform live as the group’s MC (or Minister of Enjoyment).

The famous West African pidgin expression chop life, which means “enjoy life,” and the ancient soundsystems that form the foundation of Jamaican music culture are the sources of Choplife Soundsystem’s name. A soundsystem is a movable group of DJs and MCs that perform music together at public events like street parties, bars, and festivals. They are often funded by a well-known local businessperson.

International groups have recently added their own unique touch to the style, such as producer Diplo’s Major Lazer project, which serves as a DJ crew, original song composers, and performers. The ever-visionary Mr. Eazi is giving soundsystem culture a contemporary, African touch with Choplife Soundsystem by fusing genres like amapiano and afrobeats to create the ultimate African party experience, both on original studio recordings and at specially-curated live events.

With events in Cotonou, Benin; Stockholm, Sweden; and Kigali, Rwanda, in 2022, Mr. Eazi “soft launched” Choplife Soundsystem in an effort to carry the feel and spirit of his popular Ghanaian Christmas party Detty Rave on the road. Later in Spring, Mr. Eazi will make further Choplife Soundsystem announcements, including new music releases, collaborations, and live events.

“I’m going back to where I started from, hosting the biggest parties at uni,” Mr. Eazi says. “That’s how I started singing. I am looking forward to this new and fun ride, and I can’t wait for all the music to start dropping and the accompanying live experience”
