Shatta Wale, a superstar of Ghana’s Reggae/Dancehall genre, has explained why he hasn’t yet submitted his work for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards program.
Shatta Wale said he has no “conflict” with the VGMAs and the board may reconcile with him whenever they’re ready in an interview on Hitz Fm.
He remarked in the interview, “You know VGMA is my ex-girlfriend. If they want to come back, I’m here. I don’t see why they are acting like the issue we have can’t be resolved.
He said that the board had to take a “gentle approach,” sit him down, and have a conversation with him about the entire forthcoming slate of nominees before he submits his music for the honors once more.
He said, “I feel like there should be a good approach to me, Shatta we want to sit down with you and let you know we are ready with our nominations and we have a team. They are the ones coordinating something like this.”
He said that the board of the VGMA should include a member or members who can communicate with them and determine whether they are interested in the entire awards program.
Because of all the things I am involved in, including music, business, and other endeavors, they should also contact someone in their office and ask, “Shatta, are you interested in joining this time? We want you to come on board and it is lovely.” stated Shatta.
“Sometimes we have to understand that, together we stand, divided we fall, so basically let’s understand that things happen, I don’t have VGMA at heart that I don’t have any enemy at VGMA, the Charter House company, I don’t have anyone there, its just that things happen and we just move on, how many times have we not fought,” he continued.
Following their altercation that spoiled the 20th anniversary of the event in 2019, the VGMA board banned Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy from the program.
Nevertheless, the prohibition was repealed in 2021, and Stonebwoy has been a part of the program since 2022. But, Shatta Wale has not yet joined the program.
