The Special Prosecutor is looking into Charles Adu Boahen, Sir John estate, Akonta Mining, Airbus, and a “wealthy but unknown Businessman.”

According to the Office of the Special Prosecutor, 132 alleged cases of corruption and crimes related to it are being looked into at various stages.

Following the release of Tiger Eye PI’s documentary Galamsey Economy, President Akufo-Addo referred Charles Adu Boahen’s case for investigation. The OSP also lists a probe into the estate of late New Patriotic Party leader Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John, which is alleged to contain the contentious bequest of portions of state lands at the Achimota Forest in Accra to his famil

The case of Akonta Mining Limited, a mining company allegedly owned by Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), and its suspected involvement in unlawful mining at a barred forest reserve are also scheduled for investigation.

In its most recent half-yearly report, which was released on December 31, 2022, and which covered the OSP’s operations from August 2022 to December 2022, the OSP gives a list of the cases it is currently looking into. The report contains cases that are currently being investigated, those that have already been investigated, and those that are currently being prosecuted in court.

Unidentified representatives of the National Sports Authority, Ghana Water Company Limited, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Bank of Ghana, Ghana Gaming Commission, and Electricity Company of Ghana Limited, among others, areall under investigation for alleged corruption and offenses related to alleged corruption, the report states.

Ghana’s Gaming Commission
The Office has started an inquiry into alleged corruption and offenses related to corruption in connection with the awarding of a contract from the Ghanaian Gaming Commission to Turfsport Ghana Limited.

Criminal Mining
The Office has started an investigation into alleged corruption and crimes related to corruption involving illicit small-scale mining. The Forestry Commission and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources are the subjects of the investigation. It also focuses on the actions and costs of the disbanded Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), particularly in relation to the administration of excavators, equipment, vehicles, and gold nuggets that have been seized.

The inquiry also focuses on the operations of Akonta Mining Limited and other businesses, foreign nationals who are allegedly engaged in illegal mining, and charges of corruption and offenses related to corruption against various Municipal and District Chief Executives.

State Sports Commission
In regards to contracts awarded by the Office, the Office has started an inquiry into possible corruption and offenses related to corruption by the National Sports Authority to supply the following organizations with goods and services:

Ghana Water Company Limited
The Office has started an inquiry into alleged corruption and offenses related to corruption in connection with contracts granted by Ghana Water Company Limited for the provision of products and services to the following entities:

• Nayak 96 Enterprise,Dencom Construction Works, Edmus Limited, Jomaks, Espab Construction Limited,Roger More Construction Limited, Velech Enterprise, Intermec Gh. Limited, and A.J.I. Trading & Construction Limited are just a few examples.

The Special Prosecutor ordered the start of a wider investigation into the issuance of customs advance rulings and markdowns of benchmark values after the Office’s investigation report regarding a complaint against Labianca Company Limited and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority was published on August 3, 2022.

Additionally, the Customs Division’s auction sales of vehicles and other products between 1 July 2016 and 15 August 2022 are the subject of an investigation by the OSP into possible corruption and offenses related to corruption.

SE Airbus
Over the sale and procurement of military aircraft for the Republic, the European multinational aerospace company Airbus SE is the subject of an ongoing inquiry regarding allegations of bribery. Under the mutual legal aid system, the Office collaborates with INTERPOL, the government centers of the United Kingdom and the United States.

 Bank of Ghana
The banking and financial crises that led to the failure of some banks and financial institutions as well as the reforms for financial sector cleanup and recapitalization are the subjects of a continuing investigation. The inquiry focuses on alleged corruption and associated offenses committed by some Bank of Ghana employees as well as banks, specialized deposit-taking organizations, and financial holding firms.

Police Service of Ghana
The Ghana Police Academy’s recruitment process for Course 51 of Cadet Officers Training is the subject of an ongoing investigation into possible corruption and offenses related to corruption.

The inquiry focuses on particular instances of alleged corruption, corruption-related offenses, including acts of using one’s position for personal gain, abuse of authority, favoritism, victimization, and nepotism.

Estate of Sir John alias Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie
The alleged inappropriate acquisition of state-protected land at the Sakumono Ramsar site and the Achimota Forest enclave by the dead former Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission is the subject of an ongoing inquiry.

After the High Court in Ghana declined to uphold the freezing order granted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal, Civil Division, Accra, requesting a reversal of the High Court’s ruling in order to speed up the investigation and the case’s settlement.

Other Cases
The Office is also looking at 120 more instances at various stages of consideration. If the Special Prosecutor decides that they are under the purview of the Office and should continue past the preliminary inquiry stage, they will be made public.

This policy aims to preserve people’s privacy, the operations of organizations and businesses, and to prevent unwarranted stigmatization.
