Ghanaian gospel singer Sonnie Badu, who is well-known in the UK, has highlighted the value of fathers being involved in their children’s lives.
He advised dads to make sure their presence is felt in their children’s life, saying that absent fathers are seen as useless.
He clarified that although though he acknowledges that some relationship situations, such divorces, can cause fathers to be apart from their children, it does not imply that these fathers should avoid being involved in their children’s life.
In a 3 Music TV interview, he blamed young boys who were questioning their sexuality on their fathers‘ absence. “There are instances where a child has a divorce and the stepfather is raising them while the father is not,” he stated. If another man looks after your child, you are worthless unless you are deceased.
“I find it very offensive because most people who struggle with their sexuality are people who have lived with their mother throughout, so all of their visuals were mother making up, mother in high heels, and most of them had no man to man them up.” Boys need their father.
He went on to say that “most of the girls who have been abused in life as a result of not having a father who they could run to for shelter and love so they run to other men who take advantage of that” .
He added that ladies who must take on fatherly duties in order to maintain the household have been unfairly burdened by husbands who have neglected their domestic duties.
“Obviously, being a man means having to provide for others, but some men haven’t done so, which has made the women in the home become men because if they don’t, there will be issues or difficulties for the kids, and men have a tendency to not really care—they just go out and leave the women to fend for themselves.”
“Having a father in the home is very important. And, speaking to all men, “Go find your child if you have one anywhere.”
Sonnie Badu also counseled all men, under whatever circumstances, to actively seek out and establish a connection with their children.
