The 2023 NBA Halftime Show featured Afrobeats, and the Nigerian-African performers did not disappoint.
We have all the highlights from the 2023 NBA Halftime Performance in Utah featuring Nigerian Afrobeats musicians Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems.
The NBA All-Star Game, which was held in Salt Lake City, Utah, on February 20, 2023, was intended to include a competitive game between Team Lebron and Team Giannis, the top basketball players from the two conferences, in order to raise money for charity.
Aside from athletics, the night’s musical performances featured Nigerian worldwide superstars Burna Boy, Rema, and Tems in an Afrobeats-themed performance.
Burna Boy, a Grammy Award winner, opened the show with an extraordinarily spectacular performance of “Anyone” backed by his consistently excellent Outsiders Band. He was introduced by Toronto Raptor’s Cameroonian sensation Pascal Siakam. After performing “It’s Plenty” and “Ye,” the African Giant concluded with his well-known “Final Last.”
World Afrobeats sensation Mavin/Jonzing The next performer to dazzle the audience was Rema, who began with an ethereal rendition of “Calm Down” before speeding it up and finishing with an amazing performance of his brand-new hit, “Holiday.”
Tems, a Grammy-winning artist, also wowed the crowd with a fiery rendition of her big tunes “Crazy Tings,” “Free Mind,” “Essence,” and concluding with “Higher.”
Becoming the first Afrobeats artist to perform on stage with some of the biggest names in the world, such as rapper Post Malone, is a significant accomplishment for Nigerian music.
