Police To Withdraw it’s Men From Escort Duties
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh has directed the Director-General Criminal Investigation Department to take over the investigation into the attack on the bullion van which is believed to be a pickup van.
According to a preliminary investigation made by the police shows that, unidentified armed men on a number of motorbikes crossed the bullion van which was on a pay/collection earned at about 1100 hours and shot the police office who was on escort duty on the Van killing him instantly.
The armed men also fired sporadically in the air and on the driver, who sustained gun shot wounds and is responding to treatment. A hawker was also shot by the armed men when one of the two ladies in the Van stepped out and run towards the deceased seller direction.
Both ladies on the Van, tellers escaped unhurt but was sent to hospital for trauma.
“The IGP is also reminding the association of bankers to provide fortified armoured vehicles for carting currencies the the close of of June 2021 as ealier agreed between them and the police service, lest the police withdraw it’s officers from escort duties.”
