Adobe has kicked off its annual Adobe Max conference, unveiling new AI-powered features across its Creative Cloud applications. Among the biggest announcements are updates to Photoshop, which now includes an automatic background distraction removal tool and a more advanced Firefly generative AI model. Illustrator, InDesign, and Premiere Pro are also receiving new AI-driven features designed to streamline time-consuming design tasks.
A new “Distraction Removal” feature has been added to Photoshop‘s Remove Tool, allowing users to quickly erase unwanted objects like people, wires, and cables with just a click. This feature, teased last year by Adobe, builds on the tool’s previous capabilities, making it even more similar to Google’s Magic Eraser on Pixel phones. It’s now available in Photoshop’s desktop and web apps, with further updates expected. Users can choose between generative AI (via Adobe’s Firefly model) and non-generative AI for the Remove Tool, or let the software automatically decide which option works best for the image.
In Adobe Illustrator, a new “Objects on Path” feature lets designers quickly arrange and move objects along any path shape, offering more creative flexibility. The Mockup tool for staging designs on 3D models is now widely available, and the Image Trace feature has been enhanced to produce sharper vector outputs that are truer to the original images.
InDesign users can now access the Generative Expand tool, originally launched in Photoshop, to extend images to fit different layouts. Premiere Pro is also introducing AI-powered features, with a new Firefly AI Video Model and a Generative Extend feature in beta, hinting at more AI innovations coming to Adobe’s apps in the near future.
