Nigerian musician Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, better known by his stage name Oxlade, has disclosed that he is the creative force behind Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie’s song “Non-Living Thing.”
According to Oxlade, he approached Sarkodie and gave him the song after writing and recording it because he thought it was too important for him to have as a budding musician at the moment.
During an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Oxlade narrated how he gave the song to Sarkodie, highlighting that it was one of the best decisions he had ever made in his musical career.
He conveyed his appreciation for Sarkodie’s help and the chances he gave Oxlade in the beginning of his career.
In actuality, it was me that informed Sarkodie that I had a song for him. The song “Non-Living Thing” was intended for my personal project. It’s a record that I actually made, and after writing the song, I realized that it was designed for Sarkodie. If you know your song, you’re ultimately just a receptacle for certain tunes you write. I sang it to him even though I knew deep down that it wasn’t mine.
“After that, he traveled to Lagos to film his promo. I showed it to him and said, ‘Bro, let’s get it.’” He consented, and we filmed the video. The song became one of the biggest tunes for the next three months; it was insane,” he said.
Oxlade talked about how this partnership helped his career and said that he was successful because he surrounded himself with the proper people, including Sarkodie.
After being released in the later half of 2021, “Non-Living Thing,” a song by Sarkodie featuring Oxlade, became incredibly popular and was well-received in the area.
