Are Ghanaian Artistes Pricing Themselves Out of the International Market? Nana Romeo Criticizes KiDi and Others for Charging High Fees, Says It’s Hurting Event Organizers
Nana Romeo has expressed frustration over what he sees as inflated performance fees charged by some Ghanaian artistes, making it difficult for event organizers to turn a profit.
In an interview with Zionfelix on February 4, 2025, the media personality highlighted an incident involving KiDi’s management, who quoted $20,000 for a UK show, excluding travel and accommodation expenses.
He pointed out that such high fees are discouraging event organizers, especially in the diaspora, where smaller audiences make it challenging to fill venues.
“How often do you hear of a Ghanaian artiste performing in the UK and packing an auditorium? The turnout is usually low. I get that artistes need to maintain their brand, but they should also be mindful of the organizers… Event promoters in the UK are starting to lose interest in booking Ghanaian artistes,” he added.
Nana Romeo urged artistes to adopt a more reasonable pricing strategy to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of Ghanaian music performances abroad.
