Ghanaian comedian Richard Owusu Ansah, known as Kalybos, opened up about the personal journey that led him to end his engagement with his long-term girlfriend, Frimpongmaa. In a conversation on the Girls Aloud podcast, Kalybos shared that the decision came after a period of self-reflection, where he realized that marriage might not align with his life goals, even after spending years together.
He emphasized that personal growth and self-awareness are vital in shaping one’s perspective on relationships. “You have to assess yourself and make decisions that are right for you,” he explained. Through introspection, Kalybos concluded that while he cherished his bond with Frimpongmaa, it wasn’t the path meant for him. He stressed the importance of compatibility with one’s ideals, particularly when it comes to long-term commitments like marriage.
Kalybos also discussed the “red flags” he observed in relationships, noting that these signs are often overlooked in long-term partnerships. He pointed out how many people remain in relationships for years, often influenced by family expectations or simply the time spent together. However, he believes that these factors alone shouldn’t drive the decision to commit. He also mentioned counseling cases where couples who had been together for years ended up divorcing soon after marriage.
He argued that longevity doesn’t guarantee compatibility and warned against ignoring red flags or compromising on core values for the sake of familiarity, as this can lead to regretful decisions.
In a new chapter of his life, Kalybos married Antwiwaa on November 11, 2023. During the podcast, he admitted that his wife’s financial stability played a role in his decision to marry her.
