Dancer Nicholas Botchey, better known by his stage name Afrobeast, has explained why Dancegod Lloyd, his partner and co-founder of the dance company “Dance with Purpose“, missed Usher’s performance at the Global Citizen Festival on Saturday.
Afrobeast claims that Dancegod Lloyd was “unavailable” for the duration of the event’s rehearsal since he was in another country working on other, no less significant projects.
During the rehearsals, Dancegod Lloyd just so happened to be in Nigeria, claimed Afrobeast. He missed ninety percent of the entire rehearsal period.
Dance god finished his project before the final rehearsal began, but he was unable to perform with the group because the dancers’ list had already been given to the Global Citizen Festival event planners.
“The thing is, they wanted a specific number, and Dancegod Lloyd wasn’t available at the time,” Afrobeast explained.
“Before you even get on the stage, they go through the list — and if your name isn’t on the list, you can’t be on the stage,” he added.
The dancer added that the presence of strict protocols made him uncomfortable and that it would appear “unfair” for him to make certain decisions, such as calling for a replacement on the spot.
“There was also a lot of technical staff on stage, so it will be a little messy… “It won’t be nice if I have to replace someone with Dancegod Lloyd,” he said on Hitz FM.
