With the release of the remix to his viral hit Calm Down, Rema has broken all previous records for African music. The song currently holds the top spot on Spotify’s 2023 end-of-year charts.

The African song with the top ranking on the global chart of the most streamed songs for 2023 was Rema‘s remix of “Calm Down,” which features Selena Gomez.

The song that went viral and swept the globe was number eight on the list of songs that people streamed the most in 2023 worldwide. The Calm Down remix became the first African song to reach one billion streams on Spotify in 2023, a digital streaming platform.

The date was made public by Spotify as part of their Spotify Wrapped campaign, which brought attention to the rise of Nigerian music internationally.

The music portal stated, “Nigerian music broke down barriers and reached unprecedented heights in 2023, taking the world by storm.” Rema, one of the biggest stars in the genre, has become extremely well-known very quickly. His smash ballad “Calm down,” which he co-wrote with American pop sensation Selena Gomez, has garnered him a devoted following throughout the globe and is the first African-led song to achieve one billion Spotify plays. This song, the first by a Nigerian Afrobeats artist to appear on Spotify’s top 10 list of songs that have been streamed worldwide, is a historic accomplishment for African musicians. Moreover, it is the number one song exported from Nigeria, further establishing its status as a worldwide musical sensation.

Together, Rema and Asake have solidified their status as the faces of Afrobeats around the world. Rema is the most exported artist in the world, while Asake has captivated fans in Ghana, Togo, and Nigeria, earning him the distinction of most streamed musician in each nation.
