Stonebwoy, recently crowned TGMA ‘Artist of the Year,’ expressed his belief that he should have won the 2019 VGMAs Artist of the Year award, despite his disqualification by Charterhouse and the VGMA board for pulling a gun on stage.
The “Into the Future” hitmaker has now secured his third Artist of the Year award at the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), along with accolades for Record of the Year, Album/EP of the Year, and Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
The controversy stemmed from a near physical altercation at the 20th VGMAs when Stonebwoy was receiving his Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award.
Shatta Wale and his entourage aggressively approached the stage, resulting in an incident that marred the event’s celebrations.
Both artists were subsequently detained by the police and faced public condemnation. The VGMA board ultimately decided not to award the Artist of the Year title to any nominee and imposed multi-year bans on both Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
