Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeats musician Mr. Drew has disclosed the reasons behind his departure from his previous record company, “Highly Spiritual Records.”
The singer/dancer/songwriter said that every signee on the label has a purpose and that he himself had a brand to create during a recent interview on “Onua Showtime” with Nana AMA McBrown.
“My contract was the same as all the other artists who signed onto the label but I feel like everyone has a purpose with which they came but as for me I’m done with my 5 years”, he said.
Mr. Drew claims that Kaywa blessed him while he was leaving the company.
“Kaywa gave his blessing for me to leave. In every work you do it’s contract-based, so when the time is right the contract dictates if you decide to still work with the management team or find your own footing,” he stated.
Mr. Drew continued by saying that it was time for him to pay attention and develop his personal brand because when his five-year contract was over, he had a personal brand he wanted to focus on and project to carve his own niche in the entertainment world.
“For me as a person, I felt like I needed to move forward for the brand Mr. Drew so I didn’t consider signing again. I feel like I’ve done 5 years it’s enough,” he added.
