According to the Recording Academy, there are presently discussions about adding an Afrobeats category to the Grammys. Harvey Manson Jr., the CEO of the Recording Academy, verified this to Ghanaian media.
In order for the academy to decide to create a category for Afrobeats, a proposal must be submitted. This is what is currently being worked on to ensure an accurate representation of the various hues and styles the Afrobeats sound possesses. Harvey Manson confirmed that the recording academy had a listening session with major players in the Afrobeats scene.
