Prominent gospel performer Sonnie Badu has stated that it is not profitable to perform gospel music in Ghana.
In a Starr Chat interview with Bola Ray, Dr. Badu maintained that preaching the gospel in Nigeria is more profitable than in Ghana.
He believes that this is one of the main causes of the lack of gospel music by most secular artists.
“There is no money in evangelical music, so it is not their fault that they don’t perform it. They receive no benefits and receive subpar treatment.
They just hand them over whatever. If you go to Airport Shell and you’re a gospel performer, there ought to be a place where you can get anything you want for nothing. You can pick it up for free if you head to the airport and can board Delta. The engineer will remark, “Hey, you are a gospel artist, this is free,” when you go to the studio to record a song, he claimed.
According to Sonnie Badu, every musician and instrumentalist that performs with him gets paid.
Therefore, there is a cost associated with logistics for this activity of God, even though they are free. Each musician on my show has an invoice, which I pay. There will be payment for each instrumentalist.
“Do not attempt it if you lack the balls; you are incapable of doing it. I also understand if you would like to repay the favor by doing me a favor. However, nothing in this world is free.
He stressed that perseverance is key for aspiring gospel musicians and that hard work and determination are necessary for success in the industry.
