Google plans to prohibit advertisers from running ads related to the U.S. presidential election after polls close on November 5th. According to Axios, this is the second time Google has implemented such a ban, having first done so during the 2020 election.
The company stated that it is reinstating this policy “out of an abundance of caution” to reduce potential confusion, considering that vote counting may continue after Election Day.
Similarly, Meta is blocking new political ads during the final week of the U.S. election campaign, as it did in 2020. The company is also requiring advertisers to disclose when they utilize AI or other digital techniques to modify their ads.
