Dec. 14, Paris (Reuters) – In response to a new rule known as the Digital Services Act (DSA), the European Commission said on Thursday that it has requested clarification from Google (GOOGL.O) and Apple (AAPL.O) regarding their risk management with reference to their online platforms for app purchases.
“The Commission is requesting the providers of these services to provide more information on how they have diligently identified any systemic risks concerning the App Store and Google Play” , the executive branch of the EU stated in a statement.
The two companies were given until January 15th to respond.
They belong to a group of more than a dozen of the largest tech corporations in the world that are being subjected to extraordinary judicial scrutiny as a result of the DSA’s implementation this year, which includes broad new duties to address online security threats and unlawful content.
