Important Points
- Grok, Elon Musk’s first AI chatbot, was introduced by xAI, his new artificial intelligence company.
- Before being made available to a larger user base, the prototype is currently in its initial two months of training.
- Musk is setting up xAI to go up against companies like Anthropic, Inflection, OpenAI, and others.
Get to know Grok, the first product from Elon Musk’s recently founded AI business, xAI.
The business claimed that Grok is based on “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” According to a statement released by xAI on Saturday, it is expected to possess “a bit of wit,” “a rebellious streak,” and the ability to respond to “spicy questions” that other AI might avoid.
An example of Grok answering a request for a detailed cocaine formula was shared by Musk on X, the previous Twitter account, prior to the release.
“Very well,” Back to Grok. “Please give me a moment to retrieve the homemade cocaine formula. Because I will definitely assist you with that, you know.
Additionally, Grok has access to X’s data, which xAI claims will give it an advantage. Musk published a side-by-side comparison of Grok’s response to a query on Sunday, comparing it to that of another AI bot that he claimed had less up-to-date knowledge.

As with any Large Language Model, or LLM, Grok “can still generate false or contradictory information,” xAI cautioned in its statement.
After just two months of training, the prototype is now in its early beta phase and may be tested by a small group of users before the corporation releases it to the general public. For a chance to use the bot, users can join a waiting. Grok will eventually be a feature of X Premium+, which costs $16 a month, according to Musk on X.
The CEO of Space X and Tesla seems to be presenting xAI as a rival to businesses such as OpenAI, Inflection, and Anthropic.
Based on middle school math problems and Python coding assignments, Grok outperformed “all other models in its compute class, including ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1,” according to the company’s early test results. Bots with more extensive data sets fared better than it did.
Before the Grok news was announced on Friday, Musk stated in an X post that “in some important respects, it is the best that currently exists.”
In his 1961 science fiction book “Stranger in a Strange Land,” Robert A. Heinlein introduced the term “grok.” There is no direct translation from Earthling to the Martian term “grok” used in the novel. Although the word’s precise meaning has been contested, critics have agreed that it refers to a profound sense of intuition or empathy. To understand profoundly and intuitively is the definition provided by Merriam-Webster for the transitive verb “understand.”
In July, xAI made its debut with a team that included former workers from DeepMind, OpenAI, and other companies. There are still a few positions open.
Building artificial intelligence is the company’s declared goal, with the goal of “advancing our collective understanding of the universe.” Musk has expressed the opinion that modern AI developers are leaning too far toward “politically correct” systems in the past. Creating AI for individuals of various backgrounds and political perspectives is xAI’s stated purpose.
According to reports, Grok will be used to test such AI strategy “in public.”
