On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, multi-award-winning Nigerian rapper Davido spoke openly about the current state of Afrobeat in an exclusive interview with Forbes in Botswana. The singer claimed that Afrobeats as a whole has evolved and beyond many people’s expectations since how people today perceive Africans is different from how they did in the early 2010s when he was studying in the US.
He said that more people are becoming interested in listening to Nigerian music, which has had a significant impact on how modern Afrobeat musicians produce songs and perform.
Davido discusses how the Afrobeat sound has evolved from simply playing recorded music at gatherings and concerts to putting more effort and showcasing the creativity it possesses now. His attention has shifted from how much money he would make from the tour to how he will convey his much, and he said that he is looking forward to his North American tour, which will begin on July 1st, 2023.
