Christiana Awuni, a well-known actress from Kumawood, harshly condemned Bernard Antwi Boasiako, better known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, over his recent comments about Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer’s running partner.
Chairman Wontumi allegedly made derogatory remarks regarding Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, erroneously saying she was from the Central Region and hinting that the former vice chancellor of UCC was secretly married to John Mahama.
“His discourse lacks propriety, and I’m not sure if that’s because of his money or anything else. He doesn’t care; he talks hastily,” she said angrily.
This is not the first time he has attacked her in this manner. Would he have had the gall to say such things in front of her if it weren’t for politics?” She asked.
Awuni also threatened Chairman Wontumi with legal action if he persisted in going for the NDC running mate. This was a strong warning.
“Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has been verbally attacked by him twice now, but she has not lost her composure. I, for my part, am giving him notice. If he says anything more nasty about her, the whole country will see our fight! I’m going to sue, and he can spend all his money on attorneys,” she swore.
Awuni’s position is in line with many people and civil society groups that are calling for Chairman Wontumi to issue an unequivocal apology, highlighting the importance of polite conversation in political discourse.
