Canon‘s new EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1 cameras boast improved autofocus capabilities, powered by the advanced Digic X processor. This includes a Digic Accelerator which enhances the Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system, enabling body, joint, and head area estimation, as well as focusing on people other than the main subject.
Both models feature significant upgrades such as backside illuminated sensors for faster readouts and Canon’s unique eye-controlled autofocus, previously only available in the R3.
They also now support the Canon Log 2 color profile, a highly requested feature for filmmakers.
PetaPixel commended the R5 II for offering a superior blend of image quality and speed compared to Sony’s A7R V, despite having fewer megapixels, and praised its video features like the waveform monitor, zebra display, four-channel audio, and HDR video.
The all-new EOS R1, designed for photojournalists seeking high performance, includes a stacked 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor and the Digic X processor, enabling 40fps shooting speeds and reducing rolling shutter distortions.
While primarily focused on still photography, the R1 can also record 4K and 6K RAW video.
Both cameras are available for preorder on Canon’s website. The EOS R5 Mark II will be released in August, priced at $4,299.00 (body only) or $5,399.00 with an RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens kit. The EOS R1 will launch this fall for $6,299.00, with an estimated arrival date of November 26th.
