The well-known Afrobeats musician from Ghana, Camidoh, has stated that he is not concerned about the mixed reviews his songs receive, especially when compared to the success of his breakthrough song, “Sugarcane.”
Featuring Nigerian song producer Phantom, “Sugarcane” was released in 2021 and rapidly became well-known, particularly on TikTok. In Ghana and Nigeria among other places, it also topped numerous international charts.
Even while “Sugarcane” is one of Camidoh’s most popular songs to date, some reviewers have pointed out that some of his other songs, including “Brown Skin Girl,” which features Stonebwoy, haven’t achieved the same degree of success. This raises the question of whether “Sugarcane” was a one-off smash.
In an interview with Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz Show with Andy Dosty, Camidoh said that the circumstances surrounding “Sugarcane” are different from those surrounding his other releases, therefore he isn’t worried about them not being as successful.
He clarified that he no longer feels the same amount of pressure and attributed this variation to different “seasons” in his career.
There are various plans, strategies, and circumstances, therefore it won’t always be the same. I’m not even bothered if every album couldn’t accomplish what Sugarcane did.
“I used to think that way back then. I used to be really hard on myself, but sometimes you just have to accept that things change with the seasons. and that won’t work for all records either,” he remarked.
Camidoh underlined that not every song will have the same impact as “Sugarcane” and that it’s critical to realize that his career involves a variety of tactics, goals, and circumstances. He no longer puts undue pressure on himself, instead learning to enjoy the different stages of his musical journey.
