Burna Boy’s song “Last Last” climbs from No. 3 to the top of the July 16 Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart, marking his first No. 1. The song is only the fifth to hold the top spot on the new genre chart, which was introduced in April.
The 50 most popular Afrobeats songs in the United States are ranked on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart using a weighted formula that includes official streams on both the subscription and ad-supported tiers of top audio and video music services, as well as download sales from reputable music retailers.
According to Luminate, “Last Last” registered 4.2 million official U.S. streams in the week ending July 7, up 14% from the 3.6 million acquired the week before. Additionally, 1,000 downloads of the song were sold during that time, an increase of 46% from the previous week.
The latest hit from Burna Boy also brings back a well-known song from many years ago. Toni Braxton’s “He Wasn’t Man Enough,” which reached its peak at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2000, is sampled in “Last Last.” Its use wasn’t free; in an interview for Gillie Da King and Wallo267’s podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game, the world-famous artist revealed that 60% of “Last” profits went to the band who wrote and produced the smash song for Braxton. Due to its current position of No. 13 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 list, “Last” might shortly start its own Hot 100 journey. After the parent album, Love, Damini, was released on July 8, more attention might be given to the song.
The Billboard Global 200 (123-81) and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. (140-94) charts, which rate songs based on streaming and sales data gathered from more than 200 territories across the world, are collected by Luminate. “Last” soars into the upper half of both rankings. (The former covers activity conducted within the United States, but the latter does not.)
