Amakye Dede, a legendary figure in highlife music, has admitted that Kuami Eugene was never in his plans to be crowned the “New King of Highlife.”
He said that he was forced into performing the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2019 crowning live on stage.
“Though I did that, it was not my will to do so. They forced me to crown Kuami Eugene,” he said in an interview on Asaase Radio.
“I even gave the crown they handed over to me to someone to put it down, but they later said, no I have to crown him, and I did it,” he added.
At the 2019 VGMAs, the veteran high-life musician named Lynx Entertainment signee Kuami Eugene as the high-life music genre’s future.
The two gave the audience at the VGMAs an incredible performance, and Amakye Dede stopped the concert and stated that “he thought high-life music was dead, but Kuami Eugene has restored hope in him”
He then proceeded to crown Kuami Eugene and gave him the blessing to keep the genre alive.
