Afua Asantewaa announces a new date for her sing-a-thon attempt following her disqualification.

Ghanaian entrepreneur and former Guinness World Records contender, Afua Asantewaa, has announced her second attempt at breaking the record for the longest individual singing marathon. In an Instagram post on November 15, 2024, Afua revealed that the event is set for December 21, 2024, though she didn’t specify its duration. Sharing her excitement, she captioned the official flyer, “Here we go!!! I’m excited and ready.”

The announcement has garnered widespread support from netizens and celebrities, with many applauding her perseverance and determination to chase her dreams.

Afua first attempted the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon in December 2023, running from the 24th to the 29th. The event was well-received by Ghanaians both locally and abroad. However, despite successfully completing the marathon, her attempt was disqualified by Guinness World Records due to a breach of rest break guidelines.

n an email response to JoyFM’s Kwame Dadzie, Guinness World Records PR Executive Alina Polianskaya explained the disqualification, stating that the rest break timing rules were not adhered to. These guidelines are standard for all marathon records. “Afua Asantewaa’s attempt was unsuccessful due to guidelines around rest breaks not being met. We’ve seen how inspirational her efforts have been for her fans…We wish her the best in future attempts,” the statement read.I

Despite the setback, Afua remains undeterred, stating that “anything worth doing is worth doing over and over again.”
