Adele prioritized the safety of her fans during her triumphant return to the stage on Friday at London’s BST Hyde Park Festival (July 1).
Several times during her headlining set, her first public performance in five years, the 34-year-old British songstress stopped to assist distressed fans in the approximately 65,000-person crowd.
“Stop, stop, stop,” Adele exclaimed, pointing to a section of the audience, after delivering the opening line of “Skyfall.” “Do you require the assistance of security?” Can you see where they’re all waving in the middle there? Can you see what’s over there, and can you get there? They’re approaching, they’re approaching. Please, everyone, move out of the way.”
Following applause from festivalgoers and confirmation that everything was under control, the hitmaker continued performing the theme song from the 2012 James Bond film. Here’s a video of the “Skyfall” performance.
Adele’s two-hour set also included hits like “Hello,” “Rumour Has It,” and “Rolling in the Deep,” as well as the live debut of “Oh My God,” from her 30th studio album.
“My God, I’m back at home,” the multi-Grammy winner exclaimed to the sold-out crowd. “It’s strange to be back in front of a crowd. I get nervous before every show, but I enjoy being up here.”
Adele’s first public performance since a pair of shows at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2017 was at the BST Hyde Park Festival. She last performed at the Brit Awards in February, and she has appeared in televised events leading up to the release of her fourth studio album, 30 in November 2021.
The superstar singer was set to begin her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency in January, but she had to postpone the 24-show run at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum due to production delays caused by COVID-19.
Adele will perform again in London’s Hyde Park on Saturday night.
