When you are unable to connect to a cellular network or Wi-Fi, Google Maps is said to use satellite connectivity.

How is this known? PiunikaWeb reports that Google Maps beta version 11.125 has new code references that suggest the programme can use satellite connectivity to determine the location of its users.

The satellite connectivity of Google Maps may be “life saving.”

The new strings, according to PiunikaWeb, suggest that users would be able to update their location in Google Maps up to five times a day, every 15 minutes, through satellite connectivity. If you’re in a region beyond the network’s coverage, this feature might save your life.

However, keep in mind that this feature is limited to devices that have satellite connectivity. There are rumours that the feature, which is also present on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 devices, will be included in the Google Pixel 9 series.

There are also rumours circulating that Android 15 will allow for satellite-enabled texting. As we said back in April, this capability might give it a significant advantage over the iPhone. With Android 15, satellite-based messaging will enable you to text anybody, not only emergency agencies, according to 9to5Google.

There seems to be a lot of talk about Google pursuing satellite connectivity, as seen by discussions regarding texting and navigation via satellite. Google I/O, the company’s upcoming major event, is scheduled for May 14 at Mountain View, California. Then, maybe, we’ll get an early look at Google’s intentions.
