Patapaa has stirred up debate by claiming that his viral hit “One Corner” achieved more international fame than any of Black Sherif’s songs. During an appearance on the Savage Room podcast on April 29, 2025, the Ghanaian musician argued that Black Sherif’s success is mainly centered in Nigeria, owing to his deal with Empire Records.
“Black Sherif is with a Nigerian label, so his music is mostly popular there. I’m a global artist. Which of his songs has truly gone international?” Patapaa said, adding that even his track with Kawoula had a bigger reach.
He went further to say that ever since Black Sherif joined Empire, he’s essentially become a Nigerian artist, and that his popularity in Ghana has faded since his initial rise.
Patapaa pointed to the organic success of “One Corner” as proof of its global impact, referencing how Nigerian TikToker Peller came to Ghana after the song blew up—without being paid for promotion. He also credited Shatta Wale for inviting Peller during the song’s viral peak.
