Actor Lil Win announces his intention to run for Member of Parliament in the 2028 elections.

Actor and musician Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has disclosed his intention to run for Parliament in the 2028 general elections. He plans to contest as an independent candidate in the Afigya Kwabre North constituency, with the goal of unseating the current MP, Collins Adomako-Mensah.

In a recent media interview, Lil Win explained his motivation:
“We need more young people in Parliament, and many are already joining next year to support the senior MPs. In 2028, I will contest in the Afigya Kwabre North constituency to unseat Adomako-Mensah, the nephew of Albert Kan-Dapaah. I had initially planned to run earlier but stepped back after receiving advice from family members, including my uncle, Kan-Dapaah. However, I am determined to run as an independent candidate in 2028.”

Lil Win’s aspirations align with a growing trend of entertainers entering politics, inspired by the recent successes of several industry figures in the 2024 parliamentary elections, such as:

  • John Setor Dumelo: The actor-turned-politician contested under the NDC and achieved a decisive victory over Lydia Seyram Alhassan in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency. This marked his second attempt after narrowly losing in 2020.
  • Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus): The musician-turned-politician won the Gomoa Central seat as an independent candidate, defeating the incumbent NPP MP, Nana Eyiah Quansah, by 2,000 votes.
  • Baba Sadiq: The music entrepreneur, running under the NDC, defeated the incumbent MP Patrick Boamah in the Okaikwei Central constituency.
  • Ebi Bright: The NDC candidate emerged victorious in the Tema Central parliamentary race.

Currently, Collins Adomako-Mensah holds the Afigya Kwabre North seat, having retained it in the 2024 elections with 16,689 votes, surpassing the NDC’s Emmanuel Agumah, who secured 13,383 votes.

Lil Win’s announcement underscores the increasing involvement of entertainers in Ghanaian politics.
