Nigerian music icon Davido has joined the celebrations surrounding John Mahama’s projected victory in Ghana’s 2024 general elections. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer is set to make a comeback as President after losing the 2016 and 2020 elections, with only the official declaration from Ghana’s Electoral Commission pending.
The concession of defeat by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has further fueled excitement across the country and beyond. In a press conference on Sunday, December 8, 2024, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged his party’s internal results, which confirmed Mahama’s win, and emphasized the need for unity, stating, “Ghana is bigger than any individual’s political ambitions.” He revealed that he had called Mahama to congratulate him, describing the NDC’s performance as a clear victory, particularly in the parliamentary elections.

While the election process faced challenges, including reports of violence that led to two deaths and several injuries, Dr. Bawumia’s concession has been praised as a significant step toward preserving Ghana’s peace and stability. The NDC is poised to secure a strong mandate in both the presidential and parliamentary races, as Ghanaians await the Electoral Commission’s final confirmation of the results.
