Ghanaian social media influencer Twene Jonas was nearly arrested in the United States after police approached him on the street. According to a video of the incident, police responded to a report about Jonas loitering near a temple and “yelling” during one of his live videos.
Known for his outspoken criticism of Ghanaian politics and social issues, Jonas shared the encounter with his followers through a live video. In the footage, he is seen speaking with the officers, asserting his innocence and explaining his actions as they questioned him.
“We got a call that you were here screaming, so we came to check on you,” one officer explained. Jonas replied, “Oh, I’m just on a live video. Is it okay if I show you?” The officer then asked if he had been yelling at anyone, to which Jonas responded, “I’m a content creator on social media.”
The officer continued, explaining, “Since you were so close to the temple, the person who called was concerned and thought you might have been yelling at someone.” Jonas clarified, “I was just showing my viewers the trees and how the leaves were falling; I didn’t even realize there was a temple nearby. I’m not from this area.”
