Ghanaian social media star Firdaus Iddrisu, also known as Shatta Bandle, has issued an apology to the Nigerian public and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following an incident where he was seen spraying Naira notes in Lagos. This event occurred during his recent trip to Nigeria for Mr Ibu’s funeral on June 28 and was captured in a viral video.
Shatta Bandle has expressed regret for his actions, clarifying that he did not intend to violate any Nigerian laws. He explained that he began by spraying dollars but switched to Naira when he ran out of dollars, inadvertently breaking the law. He emphasized his respect for the EFCC and Nigerian laws, referring to Nigeria as his second home. “I apologise to you people; I didn’t come to break laws because Nigeria is my next home. I apologise to everybody, especially the EFCC, to forgive me for what I have done,” he said.
According to Nigerian law, anyone convicted of abusing a Naira note or tampering with a coin or note faces a minimum imprisonment of six months or a fine of at least N50,000 (around US$37), or both.
