The singer of the popular “Defe Defe” song has expressed surprise at how Team Eternity has managed the copyright issue. Kwame Mickey, the producer of the original “Defe Defe” song, has urged Team Eternity to do the right thing by meeting with him and providing compensation.
He plans to pursue the matter because he believes they have sampled parts of a song he previously produced.
She mentioned that she initially enjoyed their song and felt that if they had approached her earlier, the issue could have been resolved more easily.
“I heard my children singing the song and thought they had created it themselves. Later, I found out a group had performed it. I wanted to do a remix but held back because their song was already popular.
It was only after Kwame Mickey reached out and informed me about calling out Team Eternity on social media that I learned more. If he had told us earlier, we would have advised him to let it go, but he chose a different path.
“They contacted my husband, saying that we are Christians and should handle it accordingly, not like hiplife artists. I felt offended when my husband relayed their message,” she said during the interview.
The original “Defe Defe” song by Hallelujah Voices was written by Osuani Afrifa and produced by Kwame Mickey for Kaakyire Music Productions, released in 2004.
The recent copyright dispute has sparked debate, with some arguing that Team Eternity’s version is different from the original, while others believe that even two identical lines constitute copyright infringement.
