A concerned Muslim has issued a stern warning to popular Ghanaian comic actor Kwesi Antwi, also known as Dr. Likee or Akabenezer, regarding his comedic skits about Islam.
The individual advised Dr. Likee/Akabenezer to exercise caution and avoid creating content that could be perceived as demeaning to the Islamic religion.
While acknowledging the comedian’s creative freedom to feature Muslims in his skits, the warning stressed the importance of handling religious topics with sensitivity.
The concerned citizen specifically stated, “We don’t want any skit that downgrades Islam. Skits that uplift or positively represent Islam are acceptable.”
The warning aims to encourage Dr. Likee/Akabenezer to be mindful of the impact his skits may have on the Islamic community and to avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes or biases.
I am not inciting the youth against him, but I am telling him the truth. It’s not just about being careful, but about stopping certain productions.
You can create skits about Muslims, but when it comes to religion, you need to be very cautious. We don’t want any skit that downgrades Islam. Any skit that uplifts Islam is fine.”
Dr. Likee, also known as Akabenezer or Ras Nene, is a well-known figure in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, particularly in Kumawood movies. His career, which began unexpectedly, has seen him become famous for his versatility in playing various roles, from an armed robber to a comedian.
